Better Roofing Methods in the 21st Century The older style of roofing meant removing the old roof surface and taking the materials by wheelbarrow to a dump truck or trailer parked as close to the house as possible. This always tied up the homeowner’s driveway. The materials were thrown from the roof onto the ground. As you can imagine, this caused a lot of the debris to fall on plants and landscaping. The debris was then picked up by hand and wheelbarrowed over to either a dump truck or trailer. This was very messy indeed, and very rough on the landscape. This was very labor and time intensive.
